Service: Remedial Works on Lightning Protection and Earthing Systems

Description

Remedial Works involves correcting deficiencies, repairing damage, or upgrading existing lightning protection and earthing systems to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements. This service is aimed at restoring full protection performance and minimizing risk to structures, personnel, and equipment.

Key elements include:

  • Repair or replacement of damaged or missing air-termination systems, down-conductors, and earthing components.

  • Adjustment or upgrade of earthing grids to meet current step & touch voltage safety requirements.

  • Correction of improper connections, bonding, or surge protection installations.

  • Verification that all remedial actions restore system compliance with relevant standards.

Basis / Standards

  • IEC 62305-1 to 4 – Protection against Lightning

  • BS EN IEC 62305-1 to 4 – Protection against Lightning (UK)

  • IEC 60749-1 – Effects of Current on Humans and Livestock

  • IEEE 80-2013 – Safety in AC Substation Grounding

Note: Unless specified otherwise, the latest applicable standard in the client’s country will be applied.

Required Information (from Client)

  • Location and access to the site or structure.

  • Existing design documents, CAD drawings, and as-built information.

  • Details of observed deficiencies or failures (if available).

  • Lightning Protection Risk Assessment (STR17201) or prior inspection reports (STR17101, STR17600).

  • Electrical system specifications and earthing grid data.

Outcomes / Deliverables

Clients will receive:

  • Fully remediated lightning protection and earthing system.

  • Verification report (.pdf) confirming compliance with design and standards.

  • Photographs and documentation of remedial actions.

  • Recommendations for future maintenance or system monitoring.

  • Optional updated CAD drawings reflecting any modifications.
