Service: Installation of Lightning Protection and Earthing Systems

Description

This service covers the professional installation of lightning protection systems, earthing grids, and associated electrical safety components. It ensures that all systems are correctly implemented according to design documents, standards, and site-specific requirements.

Key elements include:

  • Installation of air-termination systems, down-conductors, and grounding points.

  • Installation of safety earthing grids, including conductors, electrodes, and step & touch mitigation measures.

  • Connection of surge protection and bonding of internal systems.

  • Verification that all components meet design specifications and applicable standards.

  • Coordination with other contractors or site teams to ensure proper integration.

  • IEC 62305:2024 – Protection against Lightning

  • BS EN IEC 62305:2024 – Protection against Lightning (UK)

  • IEC 60749-1 – Effects of Current on Humans and Livestock

  • IEEE 80-2013 – Safety in AC Substation Grounding

Required Information (from Client)

  • Approved Lightning & Earthing Protection Design (STR17302 or equivalent).

  • Site layout and CAD drawings.

  • Electrical line diagrams and existing earthing information (if applicable).

  • Access and safety requirements for installation teams.

  • Schedule and any site-specific constraints or hazards.

Outcomes / Deliverables

Clients will receive:

  • Fully installed lightning protection and earthing system.

  • Verification that the installed system matches the approved design.

  • Photographic documentation of installation points and key components.

  • As-built CAD drawings showing any modifications or adaptations.

  • Optional commissioning report with initial functional tests of earthing and protection systems.
