Service: Photovoltaic (PV) Project Design including Lightning & Earthing Protection

Description

PV Project Designs provide complete engineering and layout solutions for photovoltaic installations, integrating lightning protection, earthing systems, and electrical safety measures. This service ensures safe, compliant, and efficient solar energy systems tailored to the client’s site conditions.

Key elements include:

  • Design of PV array layout, electrical connections, and structural supports.

  • Integration of lightning protection and earthing systems in compliance with standards.

  • Optimization of separation distances and protection class selection.

  • Detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings of PV arrays, electrical routing, and protective systems.

  • Bill of Materials (BOM) for all components required for construction and installation.

Basis / Standards

  • IEC 62305-1 to 4 – Protection against Lightning

  • BS EN IEC 62305-1 to 4 – Protection against Lightning (UK)

  • BS EN 50522 – Earthing of power installations exceeding 1kV AC

  • IEC 61215 – Design and Testing of PV Modules

  • Local electrical and construction standards (as applicable)

Note: Unless specified otherwise, the latest applicable standard in the client’s country will be applied.

Required Information (from Client)

  • Geographic location of the project.

  • Site layout and CAD drawings (2D: .dxf, .dwg, .pdf; 3D: .dwg, .ifc).

  • Electrical system specifications, inverter ratings, and load profiles.

  • Desired PV array capacity and performance goals.

  • Lightning Protection Risk Assessment (STR17201) or recommended protection class.

  • Soil resistivity data (if available) or access for testing.

Outcomes / Deliverables

Clients will receive:

  • Detailed PV project design including integration of lightning protection and earthing.

  • 2D or 3D CAD drawings showing array layout, electrical routing, and protective systems.

  • Bill of Materials (BOM) for all components.

  • Recommendations for installation, safety, and compliance with relevant standards.

  • Optional illustrations, charts, or simulation data for performance and safety evaluation.
