Service: Full Test and Inspection of Lightning Protection and Earthing Systems

Description

Full Test and Inspection is carried out to verify that a lightning protection system, earthing grid, or associated electrical installations comply with project specifications, standards, and safety requirements. This service includes:

  • Visual inspection of installed lightning protection components (air-termination systems, down-conductors, grounding points).

  • Functional testing of earthing grids and safety measures (step & touch voltage, continuity, and resistance).

  • Verification of surge protection and bonding of internal systems.

  • Assessment of overall compliance with design documents and applicable standards.

  • Identification of deficiencies or deviations with recommendations for correction.

Standards

The service is performed according to the applicable local and international standards, including:

  • IEC 62305-1 to 4 – Protection against Lightning

  • BS EN IEC 62305-1 to 4 – Protection against Lightning (UK)

  • IEEE 81:2012 – Guide for Measuring Earth Resistivity

  • IEC 60749-1 – Effects of Current on Humans and Livestock

  • IEEE 80-2013 – Safety in AC Substation Grounding

Note: Unless otherwise specified, the latest applicable standard in the client’s country will be followed. If another standard/version is required, it must be defined before the order is confirmed.

Client Inputs

To conduct a full test and inspection, the client should provide:

  • Geographic location of the project.

  • Layout and CAD drawings of structures (2D: .dxf, .dwg, .pdf; 3D: .dwg, .ifc, .nwd).

  • List of electrical services, distribution boards, and equipment.

  • Earthing grid design data or previous soil resistivity testing results.

  • Transformer and electrical system specifications (ratings, fault currents, etc.).

  • Lightning Risk Assessment (if available) or desired lightning protection class.

Outcomes

Clients will receive a comprehensive report in electronic form (.pdf), including:

  • Visual inspection results with photographic documentation.

  • Step & Touch voltage measurements and earthing resistance values.

  • Soil resistivity analysis summary (if available).

  • Comparison of installed system vs. design specifications.

  • Recommendations for improvements or required corrective actions.

  • Optional CAD drawings showing measured vs. designed system configurations.
